2006 Estate Chardonnay - Santa Cruz Mountains

Vineyard Information: Our estate vines are situated on a sloping south-west exposure at a 1,560 foot elevation in the cool-climate Santa Cruz Mountains. Located well above the fog line of Monterey Bay, the vines enjoy a long growing season marked by warm days and cool mountain nights. The 2000 growing season was lengthy and moderate in temperature.
Tasting Characteristics: Here’s Dave’s latest Estate-grown Chardonnay. A lovely
lemony-straw color in the glass opens up to a nose of toast
and lemon custard, pears and pineapple. This is a zesty
Chardonnay with juicy flavors of grapefruit, almonds,
Honey tangelo and golden delicious apple. The lively
acidity begs to be enjoyed with equally lively fare. We
vote for freshly shucked oysters.

Ryan Oaks Vineyard in Amador County, an area with a rich
heritage of Zinfandel, dating back two centuries.

2005 Cabernet Franc - Estate Pichon Vineyard Click Here to Order
Vineyard Information: We used the Estate Pichon Vineyard for
our Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Franc, located on the slopes
of Mount Umunhum above Lexington Reservoir.
Tasting Characteristics: Our third totally estate Cabernet Franc from the estate Pichon Vineyard,
this one is earthier than in past vintages, with aromas of dusty black
raspberry bushes that have just been splashed by a mid-summer rainshower.
There are hints of green tea and tobacco in the nose, promising
freshness and light. Yet, there is a sumptuous richness here: it also smells
rather distinctively like raspberry cheesecake. Whereas the ‘04 was a little
shy in its youth, this wine is more effusive than elusive. It delivers big
berries, mostly raspberry and blackberry, leading to alluring cedar and
eucalyptus notes on the mid palate. As it opens up, its smooth, velvety
personality starts to kick in, along with some lovely sassafras flavors on
the finish. The American oak in which this wine was aged is evident in
the touch of cigar as the finish lingers on. And on. You’ll want more of
this frankly fabulous Franc.

Vineyards for our Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon. The
Luchessi vineyard is located in the hills above Cupertino. The Estate
Pichon Vineyard is located on the slopes of Mount Umunhum above
Lexington Reservoir.
Tasting Characteristics: This blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon. Petite Verdot, Cabernet
Franc, and Merlot, has a nose jubilant with sweet licorice, currants,
brambly blackberries and cassis, plus a rather substantial hint of
toasty caramel from the oak. On the palate, there is a nice burst of
Bing cherry, accompanied by anise, burnt caramel, black licorice,
salami and some definitive tones of tar and leather. On the finish,
there’s a nice herbal component, mostly oregano, basil and tarragon,
with a hint of pepper. This is going to be a nicely balanced wine,
with plenty of acidity and good tannins.
